Back to school adventures

So yeah...haven't posted in a while. Get over it. :) For those who are completely out of the loop, I went back to school in May, and already have 10 credits, 3 A's and another 12 credits underway. (and hopefully another 4 A's) Yadda yadda yadda, tooting my own horn...ok...done)

Every day, I come home with amazing stories...some irritating, some emotional, some freakin' hilarious. I talk my poor hubby's ears off! I thought I'd write some down...share the joy.

So my least favorite class this semester is my Positive Psychology class, which is hillarious because, well, it's Positive Psychology. I can't put my finger on exactly why, but I know it has lots to do with the teacher. She's very nice, which confuses me even more. But yeah, we're a month into the semester, and even after some amazing coments (if I DO say so myself) by me, she still treats me like I'm this special, fragil soul that needs coddling. UGH! frustrating.

Ok so that wasn't very entertaining. Try this one:

My English class -- very enjoyable. I've been dusting off my old writing tools and learning cool new stuff! My teach is soft-spoken and very knowledable, but my fellow classmates--a different story. Talk about an adventure. Lemme introduce you to Daniel, the class nerd. If that was it, well let's just say that I'm a nerd too, and am happily married to a nerd. No this guy is a rude, arrogant nerd. So Wednesday I called him on it. He made an EXTREMELY rude comment to our teacher, and I snapped into "mom mode," and told him so, and also told him he should be ashamed of himself. ROFL! Later I couldn't stop giggling as I replayed the whole scene. I totally and insinctively shamed this kid like he was my own! LOLOL When did I get so old?

Then there was the time this 8'2" 300 pound dude barrelled into me at full speed. I woulda went flying accross the wall into the wall if it weren't for his unhuman-like reflexes. He grabbed me with both arms in an embrace that I just may need to talk to my bishop about, and my head whipped back and bounced off of his wonderfully squshy belly. It took a while for the walls stopped spinning, but then, as before, I couldn't stop giggling as I replayed that in my head.

Ok that's all for now, but oh-so-much more to come!

Redda the Fish, and Migraine Gratitude

Ok, so we had a tragedy the other day. Redda, our beloved fish died. Well, loved by all of us, DEEPLY BELOVED by our 6 year old, Collin, who, tragically found him floating in his dish. Blessed his heart, he sobbed and sobbed. As Travis and I took turns holding and comforting our little boy, my heart was aching with him. Eventually, he was comforted (by string cheese, of all things), and went back to doing what a healthy 6 year old kid would do.

Later, I was blessed by a... on-the-scale-of-one-to-ten---an ELEVEN killer migraine. Fun stuff. Luckily, the boys were in bed, so I took my Imatrex and crawled in mine. I felt, right then the urge to pray. I prayed for Collin and his broken heart. I prayed for Kyler and his scary nightmares he's been having. I poured my heart out to Him about my husband, who is struggling sooo much with his heath. He loves me soo much, and I'm overwhelmingly blessed

A feeling of peace came over me. I remembered that as we were helping Collin through his heartache, we were able to share with him a small part of the Plan of Salvation, promising him that Redda is being taken care of, and that he'll see Redda again. A wash of warm gratitude wrapped around me.

Then, an I thought of Kyler's nightmares, I smiled (no, I'm not that mean). I smiled because we were able to remind Ky about prayer, and how he can go to Heavenly Father anytime, and anywhere. This gave him peace as he went to bed that night. Again...grateful.

An then, as I thought about my sweet husband, and how impatient I was with him that day, tears ran down my face. I felt an outpouring of love towards him. The gratitude of having such a wonderful husband was so overwhelming.

Wowza. Gratitude. Who knew.

Oh yeah...as I drifted of to sleep, I was sooo grateful for one more thing. Imatrex...oh sweet relief!

Till next time...

Finding My Bed!

Yaaay I have an analogy! I'm so excited!

Ok so we're always told to write our goals down and read them often. This principle was drilled into my head (and my toe!) last night.

I'm a night owl, so most nights I'm the last to go bed. So, after turning out all the lights, it's dark -- really dark. But last night, I became very aware of a habbit that I perform EVERY night right before crawling into bed.

I turn on the hall light, open my bedroom door, and LOOK at my bed. I look at the little path that leads to my side of the bed -- the dresser, the shelf...then I turn off the hall light, and follow that path, in the dark, to sweet slumber.

Why do I do this? I've walked that path a bazillion times before. I KNOW where my bed is, for goodness sake!

I guess I don't have a silver-tongued smooth explanation. Just this - No matter how many times I've made that short trek to my bed, even in the dark, it always helps to shine a light on that path as much as I need to. (And I still manage to stub my toe at least once a week!)

How's that? So yeah...those goals in my first post? I just inspired myself to print them out and look at them often.

There's my analogy! Think about it as you find your bed tonight!

'Till next time....

Feeling Blue -- JUST KIDDING!

So this guy is freakin hilarious! There's no excuse for me anymore to feel sorry for myself (not that there ever was)...If we could stop him from cussing, he'd be a true hero! Here's a good clip:

And another one:

And one more (they won't let me embed it):

So yeah...Let's all get a little Blue today!

What I'm Learning - Dr. Paul on "Stuff is Tough"

"We all have stuff, and stuff is tough!" ~Dr Paul

Here's another cool thing I've learned from Dr. Paul...and the more it sinks into this thick head of mine, the more it changes my life.

I hope I get my facts straight, but I guess there was a poll somewhere in the U.S. of a million teenaged drivers. One of the questions was to rate the kind of driver they were. It had the usual, "below average," "average," "above average," and a few others I guess to choose from. Can you guess the answers that were given?

Here's a clue: All ONE MILLION of those teens had the same answer.

Yup...they ALL proclaimed themselves, "ABOVE AVERAGE" drivers!

While I applaud the self esteem of these young drivers, the statistics can't be right. If all one million were above average, we'd have, like no accidents...ever. lol

On the other end of the spectrum, Dr. Paul brings up the problems that we all face. Each of us have them. The thing is, how many of us think that our problems are bigger, nastier, and harder to bear than anyone elses?

I fear that many of us -- maybe even ALL of us -- would INSIST that our problems (let's change that word to CHALLENGES, shall we) are bigger than anyone else, and that we are the exception to the unspoken, "I'm strong enough to overcome my challenges" rule.

And here comes the point. That way of thinking? In a word, bull-kaa-kaa! lol

NONE of us are exceptions. We ALL have STUFF! Sometimes that stuff is nasty and painful and heart-wrenching, and, well...TOUGH! EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US. What matters is ho we CHOOSE (very important word) to deal with our own package of stuff.

And I'll end it there, 'cuz I'm still workin' on that one! :)

Till next time....

What I'm Learning - Dr. Paul on Depression

Here's one of Dr. Paul's Podcasts on depression:

http://www.liveonpurposeradio.com/radio/index.php?s=depression

He interviews a good friend of his who lived with depression and suicidal thoughts for many years. Justin tells his story and how he was able to overcome it step by step. I really like this one because Justin is a very real person who has very real struggles, and has some simple "first steps" for those of us struggling with depression.

What I'm Learning - Dr. Paul

I'd like to introduce you do a friend, mentor, and all-around amazing guy, Dr. Paul Jenkins. Oh yeah...he's my Bishop too. :) He and his family have been friends of ours for about a year and a half. Here's his main site:

http://www.drpaul.org/

He calls himself, "The shrink who expands your mind," and boy does he. He has such a unique perspective on life, depression, success, parenting, finances, you name it!

As you'll see on the site, he has a weekly podcast, and once you start listening, you won't be able to stop! (Like Pringles!)

Another Favorite site of his (mine?) is his M-Power Blog:

http://drpaulsmpower.wordpress.com

He ALWAYS has good stuff on there, and sometimes he's downright funny! (Checkout the youtube clip on there called, "Everything's Amazing, Nobody's Happy." It's hilarious, but painfully true!)

Anyway, this guy's amazing, and I'm so grateful to be associated with him and his family!

What I'm Learning -The Jackrabbit Factor

Adding a "What I'm learning" section to my blog, cuz...wowza! I'm learning lots these days!

As some of you may know, I've been struggling these past few months with, well, stuff. But I've been sooo blessed with ideas and principles that have changed my life. As cheesy as it may sound, I wanna share with you guys.

The first is a book called The Jackrabbit Factor by Leslie Householder. You can find it on Amazon here:

http://www.amazon.com/Jackrabbit-Factor-Why-You-Can/dp/0976531011/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1238120441&sr=8-1

Or, you can actually get a free digital version here:

http://www.jackrabbitfactor.com (just fill out the yellow form on the right)

It's written as one big analogy, and I read it in like 2 days. The principles taught in in are AMAZING (that's where I got the gratitude principle...just applying that ONE thing has made a HUGE difference in my life).

It's a fun story, and an easy read.

So, yeah, read it! lol
